Out of a sense of real concern for the survival
of life on this planet, survival that, even today, is in doubt due
to the forces of nature and the weapons of mankind, Operation "Kids
and youth Saving the world" is now launched. The purpose of the
operation is to enlist the children of the world in an effort to safeguard
their future on Earth. This campaign stems from the true belief that
"Environmentalism is the science of conserving the planet, that
does not recognize differences of race, gender or creed."
Research done in Europe reveals that the fertility of teenagers,
is lower than that of the twenty and over population by 35%. These
days it appears that the same is true in other parts of the world.
The question that arises is, Is this the world of our children's
future? The world of test-tube babies?! The radical increase in
natural disasters that we are witnessing all over the world is another
example, and these are just a few, of the many phenomena occurring
around the world in the reciprocal relations between man and his
environment, phenomena that do not stop at frontiers and are already
claiming victims.
Scientists are convinced that if a drastic
change in our perception of the world does not occur within the
next twenty years, there will no longer be a need to be concerned
about the environment. We live in a world in which the last twenty
years have introduced a new invention or development every 3.6 seconds,
however no resources have been invested in researching the effect
of these developments on the human body. In an interview with Mr.
Mikhail Gorbachev, president of the International Green Cross, he
said "Outdated politics must change its priorities" and
by his estimate the critical period of time we have left is thirty
years. So I ask you, how can we reconcile these two estimates to
the rate of the evolutionary clock? A clock that resembles a wasteful
scientist who carelessly discards each unsuccessful experiment (species)
to the floor. Our world is governed by three different clocks. You
and I live by the clocks of minutes, hours and days, but our societies
look to a different chronometer, the political clock, that goes
by elections and re-elections, while our world marches on at the
pace of evolution, and here lies the problem. For there are those
in politics who would like to bend time to their needs, not understanding
that we live within one sweep of the second hand of evolution's
clock, and we must adapt ourselves to it before our time will be
up and we will join the rest of the experiments on the scrap heap.
We the few, the too few, that are aware of the importance of our
environment, understand that although we come from different societies
and peoples, we have come to recognize one basic principle : The
air that we breath, the water that we drink and the food that we
eat are existence, an existence that has shown us that through what
is mutual we can bridge over that which is not. Current global politics
has always taken the opposite tack of trying to bridge the gaps
of difference. This outdated policy is, in light of scientists'
data, in this day and age, a luxury. The continued channeling of
most of our human resources towards the development of weapons that
even today can annihilate us before we have time to spill one drop
of blood, leads us to forget that we cannot defeat the forces of
nature. That is why we must change the policy of solving today's
problems to a policy of preventing tomorrow's.
In light of the above, each and every one of those who participate
in this campaign can see himself as a beacon. The campaign is for
you, the future generation, who cannot be accused of having an ulterior
motive of any kind. We are not advocating uprisings or violence
of any type or form. We are armed only with the media, electronic
and printed. Wide acceptance of this campaign will give us a fair
and excellent tool to bring about the much needed changes. Sincerely,
the "conscience" of the Environment.
